Classes have started at Syracuse and the action has picked up among the Orange’s fall sports teams. Let’s recap the week that was for the Orange Olympic sports.
Field Hockey (2-0, 0-0)
The 9th-ranked Orange opened the 2026 season with two road wins. Syracuse won 2-1 at Fairfield on Friday behind 2nd-quarter goals from Aubrey Turner and Jovie Weaver. Jessie Eiselin and Tane King split the game in goal for Syracuse.
On Sunday, the Orange got a 3-2 win at Northeastern. Taylor Bigbie opened the scoring
and then after the Huskies took a 2-1 lead, Hattie Madden and Weaver scored in the 3rd quarter to give Syracuse a 2-0 start. Eiselin and Kang once again split the game in goal for the Orange.
Syracuse will play Ohio State and Rutgers at the ACC/Big10 Challenge next weekend in New Jersey.
Women’s Soccer (3-1-2, 0-0)
Just when it looked like things were trending up for this program, the Orange took a step back this week. First, it was a 2-1 home loss to Niagara and then it was a 0-0 tie at home against Harvard. Moo Galbus scored the only Syracuse goal this week and the Orange need to get the offense back on track when they head down I81 to face Binghamton on Thursday night.
Volleyball (0-2, 0-0)
Not the start to 2026 that the Orange want as they were swept by both Cincinnati and Illinois this weekend. Kiernan Stamey and Marie Laurio led Syracuse in kills over the weekend with 25 and 24 respectively.
Next week, Syracuse heads to Ithaca to play Howard, UAlbany and Cornell.
Men’s Soccer (2-1, 0-0)
Coming off the disappointing loss to New Hampshire, it was Ian McIntyre’s bench that got it going against Loyola. Bryson Rodriguez and Pedro Gulli scored goals two minutes apart in the first half- both assisted by Badr Laghjibi. The Orange defense took over in the 2-0 win, which was Kyle Jansen’s 1st clean sheet.
Syracuse will host Iona tonight and then open ACC play on Friday when Clemson visits.
Cross-Country
The Syracuse men shared the top spot in the ACC Pre-Season Coaches Poll with Wake Forest. Both schools received 5 first-place votes in the poll. Last year, the Orange were narrowly defeated by Virginia before going on to finish on the podium (4th) at the NCAA Championships.
The Syracuse women were ranked 13th slotting between Louisville and SMU. NC State was the top team in the women’s poll. Cross-country has a tune-up race at Colgate next Saturday before the true season opener at Penn State on September 11th.
