Real Oviedo president Martín Peláez addressed the ongoing investigation into the alleged racist shouts directed at Vinícius Jr. during the club’s recent clash against Real Madrid. Speaking at a press conference held at the Carlos Tartiere stadium, Peláez confirmed that, more than two weeks after the incident, authorities have yet to uncover any evidence.
“The police are still investigating, and as soon as we have the results or if we find any clues, we will punish him,” Peláez said. “We are confident
in the behavior of our fans; the Tartiere and our people have always been up to scratch, and that day was no exception. If nothing has come of it at this point, it’s good news, because if there had been something, it would have been known by now.”
Peláez’s remarks come despite the fact that a couple of weeks ago, Movistar released footage from the same match in which fans could clearly be heard making monkey noises directed at both Vinícius and Kylian Mbappé. That evidence contradicts the investigation so far, making the claim that “no findings” have surfaced in the police investigation appear increasingly difficult to reconcile.
The comments suggest optimism from Oviedo’s leadership that the investigation may close without confirmation of racist abuse, though Spanish authorities have not yet issued a final ruling.
