Sometimes you watch WWE and it’s hours of advertisements interrupting what should be the biggest event of the year, and when you finally do get to the actual matches there are 48 different logos slapped on the mat, and it doesn’t feel like the thing you once fell in love with.
But then you tune into the first episode of Friday Night SmackDown following that show, and you are reminded exactly why you fell in love with this ridiculous thing called pro wrestling:
Trick Williams, wordsmith that he is,
has been insulting Sami Zayn by referring to him as the “Gingerbread Man.” He took this to its logical conclusion, getting someone to dress up to continue the gag. If you’re Zayn, there is no response to that, at least not verbally. The only thing he could do was to find a way to get himself in the costume and ambush Trick and his new best pal, Lil Yachty.
So that’s what he did. He straight up took a candy cane to the United States champion’s back, and then dropped his rapper friend just after. While admiring his work, sans the mask, Zayn started dancing in the ring.
This is why we watch.
