Harry Kane is a doubt ahead of Real Madrid clash after injury scare with England.
Harry Kane missed England’s friendly against Japan after picking up what has been described as a minor issue in training, casting some uncertainty ahead of Bayern Munich’s upcoming Champions League tie against Real Madrid.
The England national team confirmed the decision shortly before kickoff, opting not to risk their captain.
“Harry Kane will rest tonight as a precaution after suffering a small issue in training, but
he will remain with the squad to be assessed again. Jordan Henderson returned to Brentford before tonight’s match.”
The absence comes despite Thomas Tuchel initially stating that Kane would feature.
“I’m happy that Harry is back with us, our captain and top scorer. He will lead the team tomorrow on the pitch.”
Plans changed following the late setback, though the issue is not believed to be serious.
Jude Bellingham was also left out, returning to Madrid without playing a single minute, with Tuchel previously noting it was “as a precaution” following his recent injury.
The timing is notable, with Bayern set to face Real Madrid in the Champions League next week. The first leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabéu, with the return leg scheduled at the Allianz Arena days later.
