Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has admitted that star striker Kylian Mbappe could make a surprise return from injury against Barcelona in Sunday’s Supercopa Clasico.
Mbappe missed the semi-final win over
Atletico and had been expected to sit out the whole tournament due to a knee injury.
However, Alonso was asked about Mbappe after seeing his team set up a final date with Barcelona and says the France star could make his comeback against Hansi Flick’s side.
“He will come to Saudi in the next 24 hours, he feels much better. He has chances to play,” he told reporters.
Mbappe’s return would be a big boost for Los Blancos ahead of the match as both sides prepare to renew hostilities and pick up the first silverware of the season.
Barcelona booked their place in the final by hammering Athletic Club 5-0, while Real Madrid enjoyed a narrow 2-1 win over Atletico Madrid.
