For the first time, the Syracuse Orange (1-0) and Delaware State Hornets (0-1) will face off in men’s basketball. The two schools meet tomorrow at 1:00 on ACCNX from the JMA Wireless Dome and here’s what
we’re predicting:
Kevin: Syracuse 85, Delaware State 66
Even if JJ Starling sits this one out, the Orange should be able to win big over the Hornets. In the opener, we saw a lot of dunks and I would expect Syracuse to try and attack the rim early and then look to get some open 3s after the defense collapses. This seems like a good game for Nate Kingz to find his groove and I suspect the Orange will shoot over 35% from 3 as they coast to an easy win.
Dom: Syracuse 81, Delaware State 61
Delaware State just lost by 18 to Temple, and Syracuse ranks about 50+ spots higher than Temple on the major metrics. Those numbers aside, I expect another game where Donnie Freeman leads the charge, William Kyle gets at least four or five dunks at the rim and Syracuse leaves the Dome comfortably. One thing to monitor: is the defensive intensity fans saw in game one going to be the same in this one?
Augie: Syracuse 88, Delaware State 67
I just think the Hornets are going to have a tough time defending Syracuse. William Kyle III looked like a monster against Binghamton, having 10 dunks in a game is unreal. I don’t expect him to slow down offensively as I think coach Autry will continue to draw up plays giving him high percentage looks at the rim, while Delaware State struggles to do anything about it. I also think this is a game where Sadiq White finds some rhythm. I expect the freshman to be in double digits scoring, and start to find his stride.
Szuba: Syracuse 91, Delaware State 55
Delaware State ranks in the bottom 15 teams in the country (KenPom) and gave up 64% two-point shooting against Temple. I don’t think the Orange offense will have any trouble scoring in this one. The Hornets bigs aren’t offensive threats so if Syracuse can lock in on the perimeter it should be able to get out and run. This is another stat-stuffing opportunity for Donnie Freeman, William Kyle and Sadiq White. There’s no reason why Syracuse shouldn’t dominate the glass and the paint this game.
