As Kansas City Chiefs training camp practice got going on Tuesday morning, a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter hit the public
and revealed who will be taking the one vacant spot on the team’s 90-man offseason roster.Kansas City will reportedly be signing veteran defensive end Emmanuel Ogbah, a former member of the Chiefs
during the 2019 season. That was his fourth year in the league; the 32-year-old is now entering his 11th season with 48 career sacks to his name.
The reunion has been a long time coming; defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo revealed his affinity for Ogbah during a post-practice press conference on Tuesday.
“I always had an affection for E,” Spagnuolo said. “It was disappointing, the one year we had him in 2019, I thought he was really coming on, then he got hurt so we didn’t have him at the end of the year.”
In his lone season with the Chiefs, Ogbah started four games — including the last three he appeared in before tearing his pectoral and being placed on the Reserve/Injured list. He earned 5.5 sacks in 10 games.
In the years since, Ogbah has primarily played with the Miami Dolphins, but most recently spent a season with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2025. He played in 13 games, starting three of them but only earning half a sack.
In 2024, he was a 16-game starter in Miami, racking up the second-most tackles in his career (49) with five sacks and nine quarterback hits.
“I’ve always been periodically in touch with him,” Spanguolo revealed. “If he is a part of our group, I’ll be excited about that.”
Ogbah projects to slide in as a reserve defensive end, supplying veteran depth behind the young, inexperienced players currently in the starting lineup. Fourth-year player Felix Anudike-Uzomah is likely the most threatened for playing time, although second-year lineman Ashton Gillotte has been out of practice with a hamstring for over a week.
