The Commanders have placed defensive linemen Daron Payne, Javon Kinlaw and running back Jeremy McNichols on injured reserve, the team announced on Tuesday.
None of that is good news.
Some of it was expected based on reporting on Payne and McNichols. This Kinlaw situation is another kick in the shin.
The Commanders defensive showed out during a Week 8 win over the Eagles, with
massive contributions from Charles Omenihu and Shy Tuttle. They’ll need more of the same in every week moving forward, and it’s fair to expect increased snap counts for them moving forward. Johnny Newton has also been designated to return off injured reserve, so he’l factor heavily into what Washington does up front.
Of note: While the Commanders have announced three players moving to injured reserve, they have not yet stated corresponding moves. This story will be updated when those moves are made.
We know at least one, as the Commanders have claimed running back Robert Henry Jr. off waivers from Seattle, per The Athletic. He was signed by Washington as an undrafted free agent.
