The UFC White House card is here and so far it sounds like it has fallen short of the hype.
Ilia Topuria defends his lightweight title against Justin Gaethje in the historic June 14 main event, and Alex Pereira moves up to heavyweight to battle Ciryl Gane for an interim title, so it’s not as if the lineup is short of star power. However, given the massive hype surrounding the once-in-a-lifetime show, perhaps hardcore fight fans and the fighters themselves were expecting much more.
Longtime combat sports
veteran Tom Lawlor perhaps summed it up best, tweeting, “LOL THATS IT?”
UFC flyweight contender Brandon Royval lamented the UFC missing out on a grudge match between American bantamweights Sean O’Malley and Cory Sandhagen (O’Malley has instead been matched up with Aiemann Zahabi), while Terrance McKinney wondered if Michael Chandler got a raw deal by having to face the dangerous Mauricio Ruffy after chasing a fight with Conor McGregor for the past few years.
