I watched very little NFL action because I was on my bachelor trip to Chicago where I saw Blink-182 and Green Day perform. While I wish I could write about how amazing those shows were, I am bound to instead
recap a dour NFLSU weekend where neither of our Heisman QBs suited up. Let’s get this over with.
Dolphins 21 at Bills 31
Tre’Davious White had five tackles and Reid Ferguson long snapped.
NFLSU Score: 3/10
Bengals 10 at Vikings 48
Prior to the season this was the obvious favorite to be the NFLSU Game of the Year. Not since Week 1 of 2021 have Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson all shared a field together. In the two subsequent matchups between these two teams, both had backup QBs.
Jefferson and Chase each had 5 catches, for 75 and 50 yards respectively, all team highs. Despite their moderate success, it was still a depressing day to see what this team has become without Joe Burrow. Five Bengals turnovers with TWO returned for touchdowns is wild. We couldn’t even get a Jay Ward tackle. Ugh.
NFLSU Score: 5/10
Raiders 24 at Commanders 41
While is super sucks that Jayden Daniels didn’t play Sunday, his situation is at least far less depressing than Joe’s. It’s only a short-term injury and his team still rolled without him. Devin White had six tackles for the Raiders, while Jamal Adams had two.
NFLSU Score: 4/10
Steelers 21 at Patriots 14
Kayshon Boutte had two passes for 28 yards. Will Campbell had a tougher day at the office, but he’s a rookie and it’s a Steeler defense. He’ll be fine. K’Lavon Chaisson had three tackles, while Patrick Queen led the Steelers with 10.
NFLSU Score: 6/10
Caolts 41 at Titans 20
Lloyd Cushenberry III did his best on a Titans O-line that is being reshuffled around him. Arden Key played but did not record a tackle.
NFLSU Score: 2/10
Texans 10 at Jaguars 17
Brian Thomas Jr. struggled with drops again for the early portion of this game, but made up for it with a giant 46-yard catch to put the Jags in position for the game-winning TD. He finished the day with two catches for 55 yards.
Derek Stingley Jr. had one pass breakup, but left the game with an oblique injury. Danielle Hunter somehow didn’t have a tackle. I’m gonna assume Ed Ingram is innocent and the rest of the Texans OL is the problem.
NFLSU Score: 5/10
Falcons 0 at Panthers 30
All credit to Damien Lewis.
NFLSU Score: 2/10
Rams 26 at Eagles 33
Omar Speights had four tackles.
NFLSU Score: 3/10
Jets 27 at Buccaneers 29
Mason Taylor had four catches for 18 yards. Deion Jones had one tackle.
NFLSU Score: 4/10
Packers 10 at Browns 13
The biggest upset of the year in the NFL so far can be credited to two Tigers. This looked like a snoozer until Grant Delpit’s game-changing pick late in the fourth quarter.
In addition to the pick, Delpit was second on the team with nine tackles.
Ethan Pocic played every snap at center, and was at the center of a perfectly executed scramble drill to put the Browns in position for the game-winning field goal.
Additionally, Jarrick Bernard-Converse played six special teams snaps. A heroic effort all around.
NFLSU Score: 7/10
Broncos 20 at Chargers 23
Donte Jackson made one tackle and Austin Deculus played a handful of snaps.
NFLSU Score: 2/10
Saints 13 at Seahawks 44
Davon Godchaux and Anthony Bradford played many snaps that did not register on the stat sheet.
NFLSU Score: 2/10
Cardinals 15 at 49ers 16
Nobody active.
NFLSU Score: 0/10
Cowboys 14 at Bears 31
Damone Clark had two tackles.
NFLSU Score: 2/10
Chiefs 22 at Giants 9
After a thermonuclear explosion in Week 2, Malik Nabers was held to just two catches for 13 yards. Cor’Dale Flott had three tackles.
NFLSU Score: 3/10
Lions 38 at Ravens 30
No Tigers played in this game, but I’m gonna make a rare exception and award this game points because former Tiger Kelvin Sheppard coached his third game as Lions Defensive Coordinator. His defense sacked Lamar Jackson a whopping seven times, and he was getting showered with praise by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman on the broadcast. That deserves some recognition!
