Questions keep being raised about Newcastle United’s last summer transfer business, particularly the expensive acquisitions of Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa and their poor-to-say-the-least return on investment.
On Wissa’s absence from the post-Chelsea game dressing-room photo, the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope reported that there was “nothing untoward” and that the forward was simply in the toilet.
Wissa has struggled for minutes and did not feature against Barcelona, but there is believed to be no market
for a £55 million player who has battled fitness issues. Per Hope, Wissa’s family is settled on Tyneside, and everything points toward his staying at the club next season.
Woltemade’s situation, however, is described differently. According to Hope, the messaging from Newcastle is that they want to keep him and make the partnership work, but there is also an acknowledgment that there might be some issues with the striker’s adaptation to English football.
Hope reports that Bayern Munich are monitoring Woltemade in case NUFC decide to part ways with the Germany international, though Bayern’s stance is more passive than active.
