The New England Patriots have elevated two players from their practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Linebacker Darius Harris and interior offensive lineman Brenden Jaimes will be part of the active roster for Week 4, as was announced by the Patriots on Saturday. They will automatically revert back to the practice squad after the game.
Harris, 29, arrived in New England earlier this month after stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. A
rookie free agent out of Middle Tennessee State in 2019, he has 37 games with six starts on his NFL résumé as well as 55 total tackles, 1.5 sacks, and a pair of fumble recoveries.
The expectation is that the 6-foot-2, 245-pounder will primarily be used on special teams and help fill the role previously played by fellow linebacker Mark Robinson. Robinson was elevated from the practice squad for each of the first three games of the season, but left to join the New York Jets’ 53-man roster earlier this week.
Jaimes, 26, also joined the Patriots in early September. A fifth-round pick by the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2021 NFL Draft, who spent time this offseason with the Tennessee Titans, the Nebraska product is a veteran of 47 combined regular season and playoff games. Has has three starts at the center position to his name, all coming in 2023.
The 6-foot-5, 300-pound blocker will provide additional depth for the Patriots along the interior O-line. Left guard Jared Wilson has been ruled out for Sunday’s game after missing all three practices this week because of knee and ankle injuries; veteran Ben Brown will take his spot in the starting lineup. In addition, right guard Mike Onwenu is listed as questionable even though all signs point toward him being ready for the game.
The Patriots’ contest against the Panthers at Gillette Stadium will be kicked off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.
