John Cena returned to WWE at WrestleMania 42 just four months after retiring, and it may not be long before fans see “Mr. You Can’t See Me” again.
The 17-time world champion teased doing something for Backlash while also plugging Club WWE.
On X, Cena responded to a birthday message from Complex that mistakenly wished him a happy 45th. Cena, who turned 49 on Thursday, replied, “Man if only it were 2023 again!! I might have different business at WWE Backlash. Alas, the years pass. I am still gonna try
to do something epic in Tampa for 5/9. I promised Club WWE something special… stay tuned.”
Three weeks before WrestleMania 42, Cena announced he would host that show, as ticket sales for Mania were lagging. Two weeks later, on the April 13 episode of Raw, he narrated an ad for Club WWE, the company’s new insider program offering discounts and special perks. Pricing has not been announced.
Days before his final match in December, Cena told Tom Rinaldi he will remain with WWE in a non-wrestling role.
“I will be an ambassador to WWE. I am already signed on for another five years,” he said, adding, “I would like to be in this family as an employee and as a contributing part for as long as I can.”
It’s unclear whether Cena’s “something epic” will be exclusive to Club WWE members, for all fans, or feature something for both. Backlash, WWE’s first premium live event after Mania, takes place May 9 at Tampa’s Benchmark International Arena.
