You know how sometimes, players are in the wrong spot at the wrong time. Imagine setting a goal for yourself to be the National League MVP in the early part of the 2000’s. Maybe having some kind of stellar season would be great, but that was the time of Barry Bonds and there really was no competition as to who was going to win that award each season.
On a smaller scale, it feels like Bryson Stott is stuck on that same spot. He is a fabulous defender at second base (or third base now!) who happens
to playing the same position at the same time as one of the better glovemen at the keystone in Brice Turang. On almost any place you want to get your fielding data, Turang is a clear choice over Stott, but that can be swayed by one good season. We’ve seen how much a player can improve, or fall behind, in one season. Look no further than Bryce Harper, who was great at first base in his initial season there, but has since fallen towards the bottom of the barrel.
It leads to our question of the day: can Stott ever win a Gold Glove at second base while Turang is in the league? Seems like it would take an abnormally good season from Stott, but maybe?
