Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß issued a statement torching agents and, of course, there would be a headline chaser looking to fire back.
Player agent Jörg Neblung took some time to respond the perceived attack on his profession by Hoeneß and slammed Bayern Munich in the process.
“That’s outrageous populism. Bayern always get angry when they don’t get their way. They constantly criticize agents. It’s always the player who decides. There’s a market for every player, and clubs and agents operate
in that market. We show the player what alternatives are available,” told Neblung Deutschen Presse-Agentur (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Clubs sign long-term contracts with very young players – often without release clauses or a balanced consideration of interests. If they don’t perform, they’re simply let go. It’s a game of leverage: sometimes the player, sometimes the club has the upper hand.”
That is a rich statement. While Neblung’s description of the player-agent relationship can certainly be the case during some negotiations, Neblung must take every fan for a fool if he thinks people believe that some agents do not try to influence, sway, or even direct their clients at times.
Come on, man.
