It appears that MVP founder Jake Paul is not confident that Scott Coker can run a profitable MMA promotion in 2026.
Coker, who has led promotions for many decades with Strikeforce and Bellator, announced Thursday that he will once again be the head of a MMA company, with a total of $60 million in financial backing. Paul, who promoted his first MMA show this past weekend in California after many boxing events over the past few years, weighed in on the news on his social media.
“Need to see the investors
backing this and let them know that they gonna lose all their money,” Paul wrote. “I feel like Superman trying to help them. Wow Jake such a good guy.”
Coker founder Strikeforce as a kickboxing promotion in 1985, seven years before Paul was born, and shifted its focus to MMA in 2006. The promotion has launched many future stars of the sport included Ronda Rousey, who headlined MVP MMA 1 against another ex-Strikeforce talent in Gina Carano.
Coker has yet to reveal the name of the company, as well as event dates and athletes signed, but said “there is an incredible demand for a fresh, new global brand in MMA.”
“This new league is about returning to what matters: the integrity of competition, respect for the athletes and sharing their remarkable journeys with the world,” Coker stated in a press release. “We are building something authentic, something that belongs to the athletes and to the fans who live and breathe this sport.”
