Nebraska 3, Rutgers 0 – 25-17, 25-15, 25-16
Nebraska took the court for the 2nd night in a row traveling to Piscataway, New Jersey to take on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights to finish out their east coast road trip.
The Huskers really proved that they deserve to be ranked #1 this weekend as they killed a depleted Penn State team and took care of business against a rebuilding Rutgers team.
Dani Busboom-Kelly decided to give some bench players some playing time tonight as she switched the line up just a bit
from its usual. Manaia Ogbechie started for Rebekah Allick, Laney Choboy got the libero jersey, and Skyler Pierce played for Taylor Lndfair.
This match has been sold out for several weeks and there was a huge line to get into the arena tonight as well. Nebraska continues the trend of selling out opposing teams arenas and growing the game. Husker fans probably came over to Piscataway, from State College, to watch this game to make it a nice weekend trip.
Rutgers played Nebraska tighter in every set tonight then Penn State did all night last night which is insane to think about because those 2 programs aren’t really close at all when it comes to what was expected of them this season.
The match was very lopsided, yet again, but Rutgers never quit. The 1st set was a little back and forth to start, but Nebraska eventually took over.
Manaia Ogbechie and Harper Murray led the team in kills, after the 1st, with 3 kills each. Ogbechie topped Nebraska hitting as she was at .750% along with Bergen Reilly hitting a perfect 1.000 on 1 attack.
Rutgers looked good at the net and Aspen Maxwell took most of the swings for the Scarlet Knights as she helped keep them in the match going into the 2nd and 3rd sets. Nebraska on the other hand likes to spread their offense out.
Virginia Adriano didn’t have her best night tonight as she only had 2 kills on 9 attempts and hit.000% because of 2 errors she accumulated. Allie Sczeech came in during the 2nd to take over for her at the opposite position.
As Nebraska got comfortable, Campbell Flynn came in the game and took over the reigns for Bergen Reilly and got some setter dumps of her own.
Like I said above, Nebraska loves to spread their offense out and looking at the stat sheet at the end of the 2nd, they definitely did. Ogbechie, Jackson, Pierce, and Murray had 4 kills.
Nebraska hit a little lower in the 2nd at .273%, but so did Rutgers as they dipped into the negatives at -0.091%.
Nebraska ran away with the match in the 3rd set and it looked like they were ready to get back to Lincoln because this match flew by only taking about an hour and a half to play. Maisie Boesiger got some time on the court in the 3rd as she came in to play for Olivia Mauch.
The Huskers earned themselves the 2nd sweep of the weekend ending the final set with a 25-16 score. Nebraska hit .390% on the night while holding Rutgers to only hitting .061%. I have to point out that Rutgers hit better than Penn State did last night against the Huskers which will probably be a highlight for the Scarlet Knights team.
Harper Murray pulled ahead of the other hitters and had 11 kills on the night and a .333% hitting percentage. Andi Jackson and Skyler Pierce had 6 each, Manaia Ogbechie had 5, and Allie Sczech, Campbell Flynn, Virginia Adriano, and Teraya Sigler each had 2.
Nebraska will be back in action Friday night in Lincoln as they welcome Washington into Lincoln for the first time since the Huskies joined the B1G. That match will be a late one starting at 8:00pm CT and will be on B1G Network.
On Sunday, the Huskers travel to West Lafayette to play Purdue in a #1 vs. #13 match that will only be available on B1G+. Joy. I don’t know who decided to put a ranked match on B1G+, but I think that is pretty dumb. Anyways, today was a great day for Husker sports with volleyball and football both getting the W! GBR!
