Hansi Flick says Barcelona still need a No. 9 despite a superb start to the season that has seen the team score 17 goals in just four La Liga games.
Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon and Fermin Lopez have all starred in the early weeks of the season following a summer where the club tried to sign Julian Alvarez.
Asked after the 5-0 win over Valencia if Barcelona’s need for a striker may reduce if they keep on banging in the goals, Flick replied: “It doesn’t change our thoughts.”
“We need normally
a real No.9, this is clear. But we have huge quality in the offence, also in the midfield — everyone can score goals.
“I am also happy that Pedri scored today. For me, how we play, how we control the game and how use the spaces [is important], but we also have the quality in 1v1 situations and the finishing.”
There’s already speculation flying about that Barcelona could try to sign Alvarez in the January transfer window, although there’s no doubt that goals are certainly not an issue for the Catalans right now.
