The Pittsburgh Steelers took one of the most colorful cult favorite prospects in this year’s draft when they selected Iowa offensive tackle Gennings Dunker in the third round. Dunker’s long red mullet and matching mustache made him an aesthetic favorite to many during Senior Bowl week, and he lands in Pittsburgh like fellow Hawkeyes Logan Lee, Kaleb Johnson, Yahya Black, and Sebastian Castro before him.
The expectation is that Dunker will be kicked inside to play guard, and will also switch sides
from right to left. Speaking on a conference call after being drafted, Dunker said he is more than ready and able to play wherever the Steelers need him.
“Yeah, so my freshman year when I was playing guard, I actually played left and right guard,” Dunker said. “The biggest difference is just the different hand goes own. I’ve been repping left side leading up to this just in case. I should be well prepared.”
The Steelers have a hole at left guard following the departure of Isaac Seumalo, and that is likely where Dunker will slot in. In that freshman year he referenced, he played 55 snaps at left guard and 80 snaps at right guard, per PFF.
