Men’s Lacrosse (10-5)
It wasn’t always pretty, but the men’s lacrosse team advanced past Army 10-6 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Hunter Aquino had a hat trick and one assist to inject life into the offense that was relatively quiet for most of the afternoon. Preston Hawkins made 12 saves on 18 shots on goal.
Penn State will take on Princeton for a spot in the Final Four on Sunday (noon on ESPNU). The Nittany Lions defeated the Tigers 13-7 on February 14.
Women’s Lacrosse (12-7)
The first season of the Kayla Treanor era came to a close
with a 7-5 loss to Stanford in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The game was tied at 5 entering the fourth quarter, but the Cardinal defense clamped down on Penn State in the final frame. Emma Kelly scored twice for the Nittany Lions in defeat.
Baseball (16-33)
The baseball team took two of three games against Washington before falling to Pitt on Tuesday. Isaiah Shayter, Ben Demell, Dimond Loosli, and Mason Horwat combined for a shutout in Penn State’s 4-0 win over Washington on Sunday, the team’s second shutout win of the season and first in Big Ten play.
Penn State beat Maryland 13-3 in the first game of the final conference series of the season. The Nittany Lions will play Maryland two more times (Friday at 6pm, Saturday at 1pm) to close out the regular season. Penn State has already been eliminated from Big Ten Tournament contention, as only the top 12 teams in the conference standings qualify.
