Manchester City travel to Arsenal looking to continue their recent good form with victory at the Emirates Stadium. After winning three straight matches at the home of the Gunners, the Blues lost the last two, including a dreadful 5-1 hammering last season.
Arsenal will be desperate for the points after seeing Liverpool open a six-point lead over them in the Premier League table and three points this afternoon will see the Gunners move back into second place in the league.
Both teams emerged victorious
in their last two matches, with both teams recording identical results. City beat Manchester United 3-0 in the Premier League before inflicting a 2-0 loss on Napoli in the Champions League. Arsenal beat Nottingham Forest 3-0, then travelled to Athletic Club, where two goals in the last 18 minutes secured a 2-0 victory.
We could be set for a titanic clash on Sunday afternoon that will hopefully end in a City victory. As usual, our team are here to give us their thoughts and predictions for the big match. Here’s what we think this week.
Saul
What a match for Sunday! City always look solid vs Artetas side so I imagine more of the same and seeing Foden healthy should strike fear in Gunner fans. City win 4-2.
Arsenal 2-4 City
Will
Arsenal are arguably the best team in the league at the moment, and always play with fire in their bellies against City.
I can’t back against the Blues to lose, but similarly, I don’t think they’ll beat the Gunners.
Arsenal 2-2 City
Thomas
Arsenal are have won 3 of their first 4. The form has looked good so far. An early season Emirates trip after am emotional midweek match? I don’t like it.
Gunners 3-1 City
Pete
I’ve got used to going to Arsenal and winning but the last two visits haven’t yielded anything and I’m not hopeful for a victory on Sunday. Arsenal are a top-class side and a different kettle to the Stretford bunch we faced last week. I can’t, in all honesty, put City down for a defeat, even though I think Arsenal will win, so I’m going for a draw.
Arsenal 2-2 City
What happened against Napoli
The Blues kicked off their Champions League campaign with a hard-fought but ultimately deserved 2-0 win over the Italian champions. It was such a pity to see Kevin de Bruyne trudge off early and his last action was to deliver a long-range pass to the right wing. We thought he’d haunt us, thankfully he didn’t.
All our team got the result right, but nothing more. We just weren’t adventurous enough. Everyone except Pete went for 2-1, and one Napoli goal would have made them all look like Nostradamus. Pete went for 3-2 because he has to be awkward and go against the grain.
Here’s the table:
