The Rock at La Cantera announced its first annual “Rockin’ Race Day: From Doxies to Derby,” a free, pet-friendly take on the Kentucky Derby race day with a fun twist for furry friends, taking place on Saturday, May 2. This day-long activation features a charming “dachshund derby” race and culminates in a Kentucky Derby race watch party, complete with themed food and beverages, best-dressed contests, live music and VIP experiences with full details online. In addition to the competition
and fun, the event will support animal welfare and responsible pet ownership in collaboration with local pet rescue organization SNIPSA.
FESTIVE FOOD AT ROCA & MARTILLO
To celebrate, Roca & Martillo will be offering three different curated menus throughout the day, including a special “for your pup” menu for four-legged friends:
- Derby Day Brunch: This prix fixe brunch menu includes a race day classic Mint Julep cocktail, deviled eggs and your choice of delicious main courses such as smoked breakfast hash and tiramisu pancakes
- Derby Day Dinner: This prix fixe dinner menu features elevated courses like pan-seared salmon or house-marinated beef tenderloin to refuel after a day of fun.
- Doxie Derby VIP: This menu, only accessed with VIP package purchase, includes a buffet of derby classic tea-sandwiches, green apple & chevre salad and more, along with exclusive access to the rooftop.
The event is free to attend running from noon to 7 p.m. on May 2nd. The schedule of events includes dachshund races, “puparazzi” photo opportunities, a SNIPSA adoption fair, and live musical performances from the Bexar Brass Band.
Fans looking to elevate their experience can purchase the VIP package, which includes an exclusive buffet menu and rooftop access at Roca & Martillo. Sign-ups for the various dachshund races are open now with a $25 entry fee.
