Hawaii football continues to prepare for its showdown with ACC foe California in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl on December 24th, but the background noise of the transfer portal is ever-present for Group of Five programs like Hawaii. Star receiver Jackson Harris has already left the team for the transfer portal, and while other departures are possible, fans awaited the status of one player in particular: star quarterback Micah Alejado.
Rejoice, Hawaii fans. Alejado is set to return to Hawaii, as first reported
by Stephen Tsai of the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Alejado later confirmed the news publicly by posting on X.
Alejado, the Freshman of the year in the Mountain West, enters the Hawaii Bowl having completed nearly 66% of his passes for 2,832 yards, 21 touchdown passes and 9 interceptions. While Hawaii might not be an NIL powerhouse, surely Alejado’s retention shows that Hawaii is starting to grow in this department. Only a redshirt sophomore next season, this could be the dawn of something special for Hawaii.
Days after UNLV’s star quarterback Anthony Colandrea announces he’ll return to the program, Alejado reaffirms his commitment to Hawaii, setting the stage for an exciting 2026 Mountain West title race.
