Not long after the clock struck midnight 25 years ago, Derek Jeter ended one of the most memorable games in World Series history by sending Byung-Hyun Kim’s 61st (!) pitch into the Short Porch at the old Yankee Stadium. Less than 24 hours later, Arizona skipper Bob Brenly sent Kim right back out there, only to get burned in the ninth by Scott Brosius. Holy moly, those were the days, huh? Not much we can do about the 2027 team but muse on what the league situation could be after the lockout.
John will
celebrate the 38th birthday of old friend Masahiro Tanaka–still active in NPB under new Giants skipper Hideki Matsui!–and Matt will remember the biggest moments of the Yankees’ 2026 season as measured by Win Probability Added. Later, John will return for the weekly Social Media Spotlight.

2. Did you/your family get any good candy or snacks last night, be it at a party or cavorting on the streets?
