Germany’s World Cup journey enters the knockout stage with a Round of 32 clash against Paraguay, and there is no longer any room for error. Win, and Julian Nagelsmann’s side moves one step closer to the quarterfinals. Lose, and the tournament is over.
So, who will be Germany’s most important player?
There are several strong candidates.
Jamal Musiala stands out as the obvious choice. The Bayern Munich star has been Germany’s most dangerous attacking player throughout the tournament, using his dribbling,
creativity, and ability to unlock defenses in tight spaces. If Paraguay sits deep and looks to frustrate Germany, Musiala could be the player who produces the moment of magic.
Another player to watch is Joshua Kimmich. Whether he starts at right-back or moves into midfield, Kimmich’s leadership, passing range, and composure will be essential. Germany will need someone capable of controlling possession while preventing Paraguay from launching dangerous counterattacks.
Deniz Undav could also have a massive role to play. If Nagelsmann gives him another opportunity, his movement inside the penalty area and eye for goal could be exactly what Germany needs in a tense knockout match.
Defensively, Manuel Neuer remains one of Germany’s biggest assets. Even if Germany controls possession, knockout football often comes down to one crucial save. Neuer has built his legendary reputation on delivering in those moments, and his experience could prove invaluable.
Finally, do not overlook Florian Wirtz. His vision and ability to create chances between the lines could be the difference against an organized Paraguayan defense.
Who do you think will be Germany’s most important player against Paraguay, and why?
