The Ravens backed up the Brinks truck for Zay Flowers on Tuesday, signing him to a four-year, $140 million extension that makes him the fourth-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.
In many ways, Baltimore did not have a choice but to pay their star wideout. After a long string of disappointments, the team finally hit on a homegrown first-round
receiver, and extending him now results in a much better long-term deal.
Case in point: many were quick to point out that Flowers now makes as much as Justin Jefferson. However, Jefferson signed back in 2024, when the salary cap was just $255.4 million. It has since jumped to $301.2 million, meaning that Flowers’ $35 million APY represents a significantly lower percentage of the cap than Jefferson’s did at signing. Flowers also has two years and just under $30 million remaining on his rookie contract; adding his new deal results in a $28.3 per-year average over the next six years, a bargain for a player of his caliber.
