I don’t want it to be over. I never want it to be over, but the 2025 Red Sox season had a particular intensity to it that I’m not ready to give up.
My god, think about everything we’ve seen since February, since the grass was brown and frozen and crunched underneath our feet as we hustled to somewhere warm:
We met Garrett Crochet; we met Alex Bregman; we re-introduced ourselves to Lucas Giolito; Kutter Crawford disappeared; Rafael Devers hid in the clubhouse at JetBlue; Rafael Devers swung and missed
— a lot; Trevor Story swung and missed — a lot; Wilyer Abreu hit — a lot; Tanner Houck struggled — a lot; Rafael Devers began to hit — a lot; Triston Casas got injured — again; Tanner Houck got injured — for a while; Kristian Campbell hit everything; Kristian Campbell dropped everything; Alex Bregman hit everything and caught everything and bought everybody suits; Trevor Story swung and missed some more; Walker Buehler struggled, then was fine for a little bit, and then struggled again; Kristian Campbell stopped hitting anything; Kristian Campbell kept dropping everything; Carlos Narvaez introduced himself to the world; Kristian Campbell disappeared; Rafael Devers hit some more; Marcelo Mayer found his keys and made it to Boston; Roman Anthony kept hitting and kept waiting; Wilyer Abreu cooled down; Ceddanne Rafaela became one the best players in the world; Alex Bregman got hurt; Roman Anthony arrived; Roman Anthony began to hit; Roman Anthony kept hitting; Rafael Devers was traded; Masataka Yoshida came out of hiding; Trevor Story began to hit — a lot; Lucas Giolito became unhittable; Brayan Bello became unhittable; Aroldis Chapman became one of the best relief pitchers of all-time; Walker Buehler somehow got even worse; Alex Bregman returned from injury and hit; Alex Bregman stopped hitting; Ceddanne Rafaela stopped hitting; Trevor Story kept running; Marcelo Mayer got hurt; Roman Anthony got hurt; almost every single pitcher got hurt; Lucas Giolito and Brayan Bello became hittable again; Payton Tolle arrived; Connelly Early arrived; Garrett Crochet kept Garrett Crocheting; October; the fucking Yankees.
We’ve been on a ride since February and now the ride is over.
I can’t wait to go again.
But, damn, it’s going to be a while.
