The Los Angeles Rams and the Dallas Cowboys are set to clash in a joint training camp practice on Tuesday.
Former Rams corner Cobie Durant set the tone ahead of time. Durant said he was “overly excited” to take on his old teammates and told reporters “Now you actually get to see what the guy next to you is really about going up against another offense.”
Durant has spent much of his training camp with his new team covering CeeDee Lamb. As Dallas’ penciled in starting corner, he’ll face Puka Nacua and
Davante Adams on Tuesday.
It will be a full circle moment for the Rams. The secondary become a liability last season that derailed a hopeful Super Bowl run. LA heavily invested in the position group this offseason and acquired Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson from the Kansas City Chiefs. The revamped secondary has been the MVP of training camp according to reports from practice.
So do the Rams miss Durant? Probably not. In fact, they may be better off without him.
That could very well cause some hard feelings in joint practices that always seem to carry elevated temperatures. The Rams are no strangers to emotions getting a little too high in this shared practice environments.
McDuffie and Watson will also have their work cut out for them. Lamb and George Pickens are among the most formidable wide receiver duos across the NFL. It’s a real test and a healthy measuring stick for a secondary that has earned sky-high expectations based on their results so far.
Tuesday will be telling in terms of which receivers perform best. Durant has something to prove against his former teammates. The Rams will want to demonstrate that they are significantly improved in coverage in life after Durant.
