The Canes improved their record to 1-1-1 this season while the Flyers dropped to 0-1-2.
Carolina dominated much of this game and outshot the home team by a 40-18 margin, but goalie Joseph Woll played an excellent game to keep his club
in it.
Sebastian Aho opened the game just 10 seconds into it with a nice shot from the slot area to make it 1-0.
The Flyers scored two goals, one later in the first and one in the second to take a 2-1 lead, but the Hurricanes were not done.
Aho would strike again with a powerplay tally 4:59 into the third period to tie things up. The score gave him three goals so far this season.
Ehlers and Svechnikov had the assists on the play. Svechnikov leads the team with three on the season.
Gostisbehere was called for slashing with just 1:26 left in the game but the Canes were able to kill it off, including 34 seconds of 4-on-3 into the overtime.
Owen Tippett was then called for slashing in the extra period which gave the Canes the deciding powerplay. The Hurricanes went 2 for 4 with the man advantage while holding the opposition scoreless on four chances while on the kill.
Rod Brind’Amour moved William Carrier to the first line with Aho and Svechnikov and he was a noticable improvement over what the coach tried previously.
Next up for Carolina will be a trip to Montreal to take on the Habs on Tuesday night.
