It’s been less than three months since the Dallas Mavericks tabbed Masai Ujiri as their president of basketball operations, giving him the chance to turn things around after former general manager Nico Harrison traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, setting the franchise up for a rebuild.
Ujiri hasn’t been with the Mavs long, but he has made numerous moves that have put the Mavs in a position that’s far different from when he first came on board. This has set the stage for Cooper Flagg to be the true
centerpiece of the team moving forward.

The Mavs are far from a finished product, but they are moving in a defined direction, which is promising to see. The switch from Jason Kidd to Dusty May is one that isn’t guaranteed to work, but it at least signals a new chapter for the franchise, which could be exactly what they need to move on from the Doncic era.
At the very least, Ujiri has made the Mavericks an interesting team to watch going into 2026-27, where he will have a chance to truly shape the roster in his image, one that he hopes will win a championship much like he did with the 2019 Toronto Raptors.
