With much of the footballing world waiting for the World Cup to kick off today, club news and transfer rumours have largely gone quiet. There is one piece of news to report on the Liverpool front, though, with the club taking the rare step of announcing that prospect Prince Cissé has signed his first senior contract.
If the 17-year-old’s name sounds familiar, that’s because he’s the son of Djibril Cissé, who spent two seasons at forward for the club and lifted the Champions League trophy in Istanbul
when the Reds won it in 2005 (and scored his effort in the penalty shootout) and then won the FA Cup with Liverpool the following season.
Where his father arrived as a striker and was often deployed on the right wing, son Prince is a centre half. He signed a scolarship with Liverpool in 2024 and over the past two seasons has been a key player for the club’s youth teams. He has also regularly played for Wales at the youth levels up to the U19 level.
In addition to having a famous footballer for a father, the younger Cissé has an older brother who plays right back for Notts County at the academy level and N’Golo Kante became his step-father when the ex-Chelsea defensive midfielder married his Welsh mother—who is also, naturally, his father Djibril’s ex-wife.
