Welcome to the New York Giants betting angle, Week 9 edition! Each week, I’m giving you my three favorite wagers for that week’s New York Giants game. My one rule: I won’t ever give you wagers that go beyond -120. No gimmes!
The Giants are coming off their Bye week and heading into what has been a personal house of horrors. Big Blue hasn’t won a game in Philadelphia since 2013, but for the first time since 2009, they’re favored at the Linc. That tells you a lot about how this season has gone for Philadelphia,
losers of six straight.
The first NY-PHI game of this season looks a lot different than it did when the schedule came out. The starting quarterbacks for this game aren’t Jaxson Dart and Jalen Hurts. Oh, no. They’re not even Jameis Winston and Tanner McKee, who opened the season as the respective backups. No, the starters in Week 9 for these NFC East rivals are J.J. McCarthy and Joe Milton III, each of whom wasn’t even on his current team a few short weeks ago. McCarthy has played just five quarters on the Giants and Milton has yet to take a snap for the Eagles. He’s also making the first start of his NFL career after appearing in five games across two seasons.
On top of that, there are injury concerns with both starting running backs. Cam Skattebo (hamstring) is listed as doubtful and Saquon Barkley continues to battle through hamstring and back soreness. He’ll play, but how much?
What does this all mean? It means I’m flying a little blind this week with my bets. Be careful out there.
My picks were 1-2 in Week 7 and I’m 12-9 on the season. I’m looking to get back in the win column this week.
Let’s get to this week’s picks. All lines and odds are from Fanduel and are as of Saturday, November 7.
The line for the game is Giants -3, with a total of 38.5.
- Game Total OVER 38.5 (-115). This game scares me and while I think the Giants will win, I don’t want to lay the points or take the moneyline, given all the bad history of their visits to this building. I do like the over, even though Philly’s offense has been atrocious and hasn’t topped 13 points in three straight. Milton and more Barkley should give them a spark. Philly’s defense has a lot of talent and might give McCarthy some problems, but New York has been scoring and should put up points. This is also a make-or-break game for the Eagles’ chances to stay in the race in a weak NFC East, and I think they’ll compete. Weather won’t be a factor. This game offers the lowest total on the board this week — grab the over.
- Devin Singletary OVER 55.5 rushing yards (-114). This is a volume play, and my favorite prop on the board for the entire slate. The Giants are going to want to run the ball, and with Tyrone Tracy, Jr. on IR and Cam Skattebo doubtful, Singletary should get a major workload. They don’t have any other backs on the roster with a rushing attempt this season. The Eagles are allowing 131 rushing yards per game which is the fifth-most in the NFL. A lot of that is game script, but this is a favorable matchup regardless. Singletary is competent enough to hit this prop by the end of the third quarter at the latest.
- Joe Milton III UNDER 189.5 passing yards (-114). Saquon Barkley played just 19 snaps each of the last two weeks while dealing with injuries. I’m guessing he’ll get a bigger workload this week, to help take pressure off Milton in his first start. DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks are out for the third straight game, so Philadelphia is once again going to need to rely on tight end Dallas Goedert plus a bunch of unproven and inexperienced pass catchers. Milton has a big arm but struggles with accuracy, and the Giants’ pass defense has been playing really well. They held C.J. Stroud to just 153 yards in a game that went to overtime in Week 7. Tyler Shough only threw for 144 yards against them the week before. Take the under.
Those are the picks for Week 9. Good luck with your wagers! And if you play fantasy football, be sure to check out my Week 9 fantasy preview, with start/sit advice and more, right here.
