Courtney Banghart added another five-star recruit to her 2027 class on Monday as six-foot guard Ryan Carter announced her commitment to Carolina.
Carter, who attends Friends’ Central School in the suburbs of Philadelphia, is the 13th-ranked 2027 prospect in the SC Next 100 and won a gold medal with Team USA at the FIBA U18 Women’s AmeriCup in June. She chose UNC over Duke, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Indiana.
Carter’s decision comes four days after 6-foot-1 wing Micah Ojo, ESPN’s sixth-ranked 2027 prospect,
also announced her commitment to the Tar Heels. Ojo, who attends Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach, chose Carolina over Duke and Vanderbilt. She helped Team USA win the FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup in July.
Carter told ESPN that she picked UNC in part because she would be allowed to study on a pre-med track. She’s also played with current Tar Heels Kate Harpring – the headliner of Carolina’s 2026 class – and Taissa Queiroz.
With Carter, Harpring, and Nyla Brooks, Banghart has landed a five-star guard in each of the last three recruiting classes, and she could add another to this year’s. Sydney Savoury, ESPN’s ninth-ranked 2027 prospect, listed UNC as one of her top six choices on Sept. 9, along with UConn, Texas, USC, Notre Dame, and UCLA.
