Rutgers men’s basketball is looking to rebound from its rough two-game road trip at home against Indiana on Friday. Despite playing two close games against good competition, such as Wisconsin and Iowa, the Scarlet Knights were unable to secure a win in either game.
In this matchup, Rutgers will be looking to get one over on a Hoosier team that is on a four-game losing skid. Their losing skid started with a close loss against No.10 Nebraska, with Indiana looking worse and worse in each game, getting
blown out by No.12 Michigan State, Iowa, and No.3 Michigan. They do, however, already have three Big Ten wins this season, as they scraped together wins against Penn State, Maryland, and Washington.
The Hoosiers are led by guards Lamar Wilkerson and Tayton Conerway, and forward Tucker DeVries. Wilkerson leads the team in scoring with 19 points per game. DeVries is second on the team in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game, and he is tied with fellow forward Sam Alexis for first on the team in rebounds per game with 4.7.
Conerway is third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.5 points per game. He is first on the team in assists and steals per game, averaging 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals. Right behind him in assists is guard Connor Enright, who is averaging 4.2 assists per game.
As a whole, Indiana is averaging 81.1 points per game, 34.7 rebounds per game, and 17.4 assists per game. Rutgers, in comparison, is averaging 70.3 points per game, 35.7 rebounds per game, and 10.9 assists per game.
The Hoosiers are a team that the Knights can knock off if they play a clean game. Rutgers cannot continue the fouling and turnover mess that it had against Iowa to pull off a win here. Much like the Knights, Indiana’s resume isn’t stacked, only beating bottom-of-the-barrel Big Ten teams. In addition, Rutgers will have the crowd advantage since it will be at home.
Rutgers men’s basketball will tip off tomorrow inside Jersey Mike’s Arena at 6 pm. Live coverage for the game will be available on FS1.
