Barcelona’s Rafa Yuste has responded to Gil Marin’s angry comments about his club and their attempts to land Julian Alvarez.
Marin says that Alvarez is having a tough time right now and insists he’s been “disgusted” by Barcelona’s “lack of ethics and professionalism” this summer.
Yuste says Martin has gone too far with his comments and doesn’t understand why he’s so angry.
“What surprises me is that, knowing Gil Marín, he made these statements,” he told Movistar.
“It’s rude, disrespectful. I want to
say that our president, our sporting department, the entire club, has been an example of hard work and professionalism for many years. These words cross a red line. I don’t understand them at all.”
Yuste was then asked if Barcelona had given up on Alvarez and was a little coy with his answer.
“The transfer window is closing in a few days, and that’s it. I feel terrible about this, truly. What I have to do is defend the club and the professionals, like Deco and Bojan,” he added.
“This is crossing a red line. We respect Atlético as an institution and all footballers in the world. If a player wants to come, we’re excited.”
Atletico have vowed not to sell Alvarez to Barcelona this summer, leaving the attacker in a difficult position. Arsenal remain interested in the Argentina international, but it’s been reported he has no interest in returning to the Premier League.
