Sometimes when you hear certain people speak, you can quickly understand why they are great at what they do. Such is the case with Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell. It’s as if he was born to be an off-ball linebacker in the National Football League. From his physical attributes on the field, to how he wired between the ears, Campbell is a special player. Colton Pouncy of The Athletic sat down with the Cedar Falls, Iowa native and wrote a fantastic piece that details Campbell’s unique
perspective on not only football, but on life, too.
“He’s doing Hall of Fame stuff now,” Lions defensive tackle Alim McNeill told The Athletic. “He’s trying to reach that type of level now because he’s already one of those guys. He’s on his way there, in my opinion.”
Originally the 18th overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, many (including myself) were confused by the Lions’ decision to take Campbell. With that said, sometimes it feels really good to be so incorrect. On top of earning his first All-Pro honors in 2025, Campbell has also established himself as one of the leaders on the defensive side of the ball.
“Anything that Jack says, people listen,” Dan Campbell said of his middle linebacker. “He’s earned that.”
