In one swing, Tristan Bissetta breathed life back into Ole Miss baseball with a towering grand slam in the ninth to help the Rebels come back in extra innings and defeat No. 2 Texas.
Watching the video of this home run is according to the kids these days “peak cinema” as the number of Longhorn surrender cobras in the stands ran deep and wide. Down to its last out, Ole Miss needed runs badly, and Bissetta delivered a magic moment in Austin.
Chef’s kiss, insane bat flip, no notes for the young man who transferred in to make his name known in the SEC. Job well done and its only game one of conference play. The 464-foot blast was a no doubter, and while you’d think would have been a gut punch to end the game, credit to Texas to come back and score a run in the ninth to extend the game.
Landon Waters earned the save with a shutout 11th inning against the Longhorns (16-1, 0-1 SEC). The Rebels used five arms in the game with Taylor Rabe (3-0) officially earning the win. Starter Hunter Elliott went 5 IP, 4 ER and 8 strikeouts on 92 pitches. Texas used seven pitchers in the extra innings loss.
The Rebels (16-3, 1-0 SEC) now have a chance to take the series when first pitch is thrown at 2:30 p.m. CT in Austin. Cade Townsend (2-0, 0.48 ERA) will take the mound for Ole Miss against LHP Luke Harrison (1-0, 3.06 ERA) for Texas.
