Now that the dust has settled on Roma’s unsuccessful pursuit of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho (but wait, he never actually said no!), Frederic Massara and Gian Piero Gasperini have no choice but to explore other options to strengthen Roma’s attack. With Chelsea setting an exorbitant €30 million price tag on 19-year-old Tyrique George, Roma may have to get creative in its pursuit of a forward to complement Evan Ferguson.
According to Serie A soothsayer Gianluca Di Marzio, the Giallorossi are
doing just that:
Earlier today, Di Marzio reported that Roma and AC Milan are at least considering a direct swap, where Roma would send Artem Dovbyk to Milan in exchange for Santiago Giménez. Now that the Rossoneri have put the final touches on their acquisition of Chelsea forward/attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku, Giménez might be surplus to requirements.
Giménez, 24, emerged on the European scene in 2022 with Feyenoord. After securing a €6 million transfer from Cruz Azul in Liga MX, Giménez made an immediate impact. Over two and a half seasons in the Eredivisie, he scored 58 goals and provided 11 assists in 93 appearances, leading Milan to spend €32 million on him at the end of the 2025 winter transfer window.
While his time at San Siro hasn’t been as productive, Giménez scored six goals and provided four assists in approximately 1,100 minutes last spring. Considering that he essentially just arrived in Milan, Giménez’s desire to leave the club could scrub this transfer before it even gets off the launch pad.
The exchange may be more fantasy than fact, but imagine this guy in Gasperini’s setup:
