While many Roma fans remain frustrated with the club’s inability to sign a new left-winger, Gian Piero Gasperini and Sporting Director Tony D’Amico have done well to recruit a few key signings. Armed with a new complementary striker (Santiago Castro), a promising young center-back (Konstantinos Koulierakis), and the impending addition of an attack-minded wing-back (Nahuel Molina), Roma is already deeper and more dangerous than they were last season—a new left-winger notwithstanding.
Part of that improved
depth stems from retaining the club’s senatori: Gianluca Mancini, Bryan Cristante and now Lorenzo Pellegrini. After a nine-year run with Roma, the former club captain hit free agency for the first time in his career. However, rather than being tempted by offers abroad or signing with another Serie A club, Pellegrini played the waiting game as his agents hashed out a new deal with D’Amico and the rest of the Roma brass.
Nothing has been made official, but according to Gianluca Di Marzio and Sky Sport, Roma and Pellegrini have reached an agreement on a new one-year deal, tying the former academy product to the club through June 2027. While it’s only a one-year deal, it nevertheless marks a milestone for Pellegrini, pushing his tenure with the club to an even decade.
Since he’ll only be 31 when this new deal expires, it may not officially mark the end of his run with Roma. Still, with a deeper and more talented squad surrounding him, Pellegrini has a chance to go out on a high note.
