We have spent a lot of time here talking about names for the next coach of the Tennessee Titans since Brian Callahan was fired in October. One name that I had not seen connected with the Titans until today was Marcus Freeman from Notre Dame. That changed today.
Jeremy Fowler mentioned today that the Titans have done their research on Freeman. The main part of his note has to do with the interest the New York Giants have in the current Notre Dame coach. Freeman was on a couple of NFL practice squads
back in 2009, but has never coached at that level.
When it comes to a “leader of men,” few are better than Freeman. Go back and watch the reaction of the Notre Dame players when Freeman was named the head coach after Brian Kelly left for LSU. They were pumped.
Freeman came up as a defensive coach, so, as with any defensive coach the Titans talk to in their search, the main question for him will be who he can bring in as an offensive coordinator.
My hope is that the Titans cast a wide net when it comes to their next coach. It is absolutely worth bringing Freeman in to see if they think he has what it takes to lead the Titans into the next phase of the franchise.
