The Phillies announced Adolis García would hit the 60-day injured list with a right latissimus dorsi tear and that Gabriel Rincones Jr. would be called up from AAA.
Adolis García has not panned out as a one-year deal, hitting
just .195 with a .599 OPS overall. Even with fantastic right field defense, he has graded out as roughly replacement level with 0.1 fWAR and well below it according to bWAR at -0.9.
Despite that, he has played in 67 of a possible 68 games this season because the Phillies have not had other options. The Phillies outfield ranks dead last in fWAR at just 0.1, the next worst being the Miami Marlins at 0.8.
There have been several attempts to find a reliable right-handed outfield contributor in the Phillies lineup. Otto Kemp and Felix Reyes had chances to prove they could be part-time options but combined for just 8 hits in 65 plate appearances. Edmundo Sosa has trotted out there occasionally but has a .569 OPS for the season with predictable defensive issues in the outfield.
Rincones will be their next test to spark the outfield but in a much bigger role. He missed all of spring training and the first month of the minor league season with a knee injury and has only has 79 at bats in AAA so far in 2026.
He profiles as a strong-side platoon partner with defensive issues in the outfield. Rincones only got 56 at-bats against left-handed pitching last season despite playing a full season. Given how they’ve been treating Justin Crawford, it is natural to think that the Phillies will look to run multiple platoons in the outfield, at least until the trade deadline.
No pressure, Gabriel Rincones Jr., you just have to face Jacob Misiorowski in your big league debut.
