Week 4 in the NFC East saw the rich get richer, the poor get poorer, and the two teams between them stay very much middling. As the first quarter of the 2025 season ends, a pretty clear tone has been set for what lies ahead.
The Eagles remained undefeated with a statement win over the previously unbeaten Buccaneers. Now the only perfect team in the entire NFC, Philadelphia is marching toward a potential championship repeat with no clear rival in the conference. Their unorthodox offense is adaptive
enough to meet all comers, and the defense good enough to complement. They don’t feel like a team that will threaten to go 17-0, but they’re looking strong for the number-one seed.
Washington allowed separation with a road loss to Atlanta. Much to Dan Quinn’s assumed chagrin, the Falcons finally got superstar play out of QB Michael Penix and left the Commanders praying for Jayden Daniels’ return. Washington fell to 2-2, just a hair above the Cowboys with their new tie.
Leave it to the Giants to figure out how to lose even when they win. While New York finally got its first dub, they lost superstar WR Malik Nabers for the season with a knee injury. That’s going to make life so much harder for rookie Jaxson Dart, who flashed his playmaking potential in the debut but also lots warts. Without Nabers as a safety net, Dart may be even more prone to mistakes going forward.
Here are the NFC East standings after Week 4:
- Philadelphia Eagles 4-0 (1-0 in division, 3-0 vs NFC)
- Washington Commanders 2-2 (1-0, 1-2)
- Dallas Cowboys 1-2-1 (1-1, 1-2-1)
- New York Giants 1-3 (0-2, 0-2)
The Eagles host Denver this week, who at least seem to have a decent shot at an upset. The 2-2 Broncos have been decisive in their wins, especially last week against the Bengals, and only lost by a combined four points in two defeats. But Philly presents another level of competition from anything they’ve faced so far.
The Commanders have a tough draw, traveling to face the 3-1 Chargers. After putting down all three of their AFC West rivals, Los Angeles somehow let the Giants get the better of them last week. That wake-up call may be bad news for Washington.
Even without Nabers, New York has a solid chance to make it a win streak against the 0-4 Saints. While Spencer Rattler is still making his way in the NFL, he’s further along than Jaxson Dart. This one should be close, especially as the Giants adjust to their WR injury.
If the Cowboys can handle business against the Jets, there’s a good chance that they’ll be in second place after this week. But even if Washington slips below, the Eagles seem to be flying away with the next ladder rung.
