After trading for the 43rd overall pick as part of the return package for Valeri Nichushkin, the Colorado Avalanche kept the pick and selected center Egor Shilov from Victoriaville in the CHL.
The 18-year-old was ranked 19th on NHL Central Scouting’s North American skaters. After scoring 82 points and 32 goals in 62 games it was expected Shilov would go high in the draft. He is currently expected to return to Victoriaville next season and is committed to Penn State starting in 2027-28.
Skill seems to be Shiloh’s greatest attribute, which is something the Avalanche could really use in their system. Taking a longer route including a plan to keep developing in the NCAA will help him work on other attributes.
Next up the Avalanche hold an astonishing number of nine remaining picks in this draft starting with 74th overall in the third round. Will they bring in nine new prospects he or will some trades come to fruition?
