The Dallas Mavericks have waived guard Dalano Banton ahead of the 2025-26 NBA regular season, the organization announced Friday. Dallas also waived guard Dennis Smith Jr. and forward Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.
The Mavericks’ G League affiliate, the Texas Legends, hold the G League rights to Banton. The 6-foot-9 guard appeared in one preseason game for Dallas, registering three points, two rebounds, one assist and a steal in six minutes.
Banton, 25, made 97 appearances with the Portland Trail Blazers over the previous two seasons after being acquired from the Boston Celtics in February 2024. He averaged 10.9 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 20.6 minutes per game while shooting 39.9% from the field during his time in Portland. Banton entered unrestricted free agency this past summer.
Smith Jr. also spent time with the Blazers. He made 37 appearances with the Blazers during the 2021-22 season, averaging 5.6 points, 3.6 assists and 17.2 minutes per game. Dallas is in discussions with Milwaukee to acquire Smith’s G League rights from the Wisconsin Herd, according to NBA reporter Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
