It’s another week of the Mountain West Recruiting Roundup.
Now that we are in the second half of the season, recruiting seems to be picking up more, at least when it comes to offers and committments. Visits
are still a bit of a mixed bag.
Offers are nice blend between the high school players in the current class, junior college players, and future classes. For the first two, coaches continue to scan areas for new players as they work to fill out their classes. Late offers in a high school class likely indicate that teams have missed out on a few playes on their board and now are offering the next tier at a position. It probably also means these players are having strong senior seasons. Junior college players probably have less teams recruiting them, which is favorable for the teams that are. Keep an eye on some of these players as the recruiting class begins to draw to a close.
This week featured 18 new offers by nine different teams. Then, there were eight new commits and one decommit. Of the new commits, two teams had two each and one team pulled in a 2027 player. Looking at the teams that had strong weeks, and New Mexico was active, with offers and two new verbal pledges. They take the cover photo this week.

Recruiting Calendar:
From September through November, we will be in an evaluation period. Coaches can go and scout recruits at their games and at school, although they can’t have direct communication with them off campus. As always, coaches can still talk to recruits via phone, text, email, or DM.
Next College Student Athlete says:
The NCAA Evaluation Period is a specific time of year when college coaches are allowed to watch an athlete compete in person or visit their school. However, coaches are not allowed to communicate with that athlete (or parents) off the college campus. Coaches can sit in the stands during a recruit’s practice or game, as well as visit the recruit’s school. This gives college coaches a chance to talk to the recruit’s coach, teachers, or guidance counselor to get a better understanding of the student-athlete’s character. After the visit, the coach may call or email the recruit and let them know how their experience was at the school or game.
The NCAA Evaluation Period is just that: a time set aside for evaluation. While coaches can’t talk to athletes off the college campus, they can still call, email, text, and direct message recruits.
Air Force Commitment Tracker:
Since the Air Force Academy regularly has by far the most commits among Mountain West recruiting classes, it’s fun to track them over the course of the year.
Number of Falcon verbal commits: 40
Commitment Spotlight:
DE Evan Walker (Air Force)
“Some of the main reasons why I committed to Air Force is that the coaching staff has shown me so much love ever since they offered me they have sent me well over 50 post cards some with personal letters and as soon as I got to Colorado Springs they made me feel special and important another reason why I committed is the academics and the opportunity for me at Air Force is super special I can get a high degree at a great academy and play football and last is the location is a great place Colorado Springs is a beautiful place with amazing people those are some of the reasons why I committed.”
2027 QB Kael Snyder (Boise State)
“I first visited them in October of last year. I have been there 4 times in a year. They were my first offer, and they never offered another 2027 QB. I was and remain their only 2027 QB. That means something to me. They were loyal to their word that I was their guy for this class, and they stuck to it. Coach Danielson is an incredible leader of men, and I could not be more excited to play for him and Coach Hill, Coach Udy, Coach Potter, Coach Miller, and Coach Keane. The entire staff at Boise made me feel like it was home. Not just me, but my entire family was welcomed with open arms. The most impressive thing to me is the development of their players and the way they can retain high-profile athletes to stay at Boise. To me that means that the culture at Boise State is more important than all of the other chaos in college sports. They laid out a clear plan and vision for my future and the opportunity that I have when I get to campus. I made the commitment now because I found HOME. I didn’t need to look anywhere else. I have been to many campuses and many football facilities across the country, but no place felt like Boise State. They truly are Built Different. I am so excited to go to battle with Coach Danielson and the whole staff and the teammates I will have when I get there.”
DB William Payne-Johnson (Air Force)
“Getting the opportunity to play football as well as serving in the Academy really did it for me. I loved the atmosphere in Falcon Stadium and Colorado Springs and could definitely see myself playing there in the near future. One of the biggest parts though, was setting myself up down the line to be very successful and I think the Academy does a great job of that!“
WR Dorian Patterson (New Mexico)
“I decided to commit to New Mexico because it’s a family environment over there. When I visit I was able to see how the coach interacted with their plays. And it felt like a real family over there and it felt like home. An all the coach’s showed genuine love to me as well which was a big factor to my commitment.”
