Fresh off a visit to Charlottesville, former Arkansas State guard Christian Harmon has announced his commitment to Ryan Odom and the Virginia Cavaliers. The junior from Rochester, New York, has one year of eligibility remaining, but, as a true senior, could get a second year if the NCAA’s new five-in-five eligibility concept is approved.
Harmon was a third-team All-Sun Belt selection this past season with the Red Wolves
and was the team’s leading scorer. The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 12.8 PPG, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and hit at a 39% clip from beyond the arc. His season high came against the University of South Alabama, when he recorded 33 points, with a bulk of that coming from nailing nine three pointers. He also added eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal in that contest. Harmon had 12 games in which he recorded 15 points or more for the Red Wolves.
Before his time at Arkansas State, he spent his first two years of college playing JUCO ball at Gulf Coast State College. Harmon appeared in 33 games for the Commodores during his sophomore season, hitting 47% of his threes along the way.
Harmon is a great addition to this roster. A physical guard with size who can attack downhill through contact and can also shoot lights out from behind the arc. With two transfer targets down, with the first being Jurian Dixon from UC Irvine, Virginia will look to add more size to their roster with the addition of a big man to complement Johann Gruenloh, like Ugonna Onyenso did last season.
