It was only a matter of time.
Bayern Munich supervisory board member Uli Hoeneß has been relatively silent during the contract standoff between the club and center-back Dayot Upamecano.
That is no longer the case as the 74-year-old is pointing the finger at Upamecano’s representation for this current stalemate.
“I would be delighted if Dayot Upamecano decided to stay at FC Bayern,” Uli Hoeneß told Kicker journalist Frank Linkesch. “I know that he and his family feel very comfortable in Munich. However,
I fear that his advisors will do everything they can to lure him away from Munich.”
Hoeneß is no dummy — he understands that by applying pressure from afar, he can attempt to influence Upamecano by challenging whether or not he really is planning a future in Bavaria. What happens next is anyone’s guest, but time is ticking.
The response from Hoeneß comes just a day after Upamecano was linked to having talks with Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Inter Milan.
