The Big East announced the results of the end of season polling in men’s lacrosse on Wednesday, right before the conference tournament gets started on Thursday in Rhode Island. With Marquette finishing 6-7 on the year and missing the Big East tournament by way of a tiebreaker at 2-3, it’s not surprising that the Golden Eagles aren’t highly decorated this season, but they didn’t get shutout, either. Three Golden Eagles are on the all-conference teams, including Nolan Rappis earning a unanimous selection
on the First Team.
Rappis is joined on the First Team by fellow attackman Carsen Brandt. Marquette’s third honoree is team captain Peter Detwiler, who landed a spot on the Second Team as a short stick defensive midfielder. There’s no SSDM on the first team — there are two long stick mids, for whatever reason — so I think that makes Detwiler the best SSDM in the Big East even if he’s not a First Teamer.
The Big East press release only focuses on the highlight individual trophies — no shade, they’ve got a lot to talk about there — so let’s go to the Marquette press release on the accomplishments of these three guys.
First Rappis, who wasn’t sure if he was going to return for his final season of eligibility a year ago at this time:
Rappis led Marquette’s offense, appearing in all 13 games and pacing the team with 31 goals while ranking second with 47 points. The Delafield, Wisconsin, native recorded six games with five or more points, including a seven-point performance at Bellarmine and a six-point outing at Cleveland State. He also posted five points in three of Marquette’s five BIG EAST contests. Rappis ranked second in goals during conference play with 16 and tied for third in points with 21 over five league games.
And Brandt:
Brandt started all 13 games for Marquette and led the team with 50 points, including a team-high 23 assists. The junior attackman added 19 ground balls and three caused turnovers. The Edina, Minnesota, native recorded a multi-point performance in all 13 games this season for the Golden Eagles. Brandt ranked second in assists during conference play with 13 and tied for third in points with 21 over five BIG EAST games. His 50 points in 2026 are the most by a Marquette player since 2022 and are tied for fourth-most in single-season program history with former teammate Bobby O’Grady (2022–25). His 23 assists rank third in single-season program history.
And Detwiler:
Detwiler was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second consecutive season. The 28th overall pick in the 2026 Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) College Draft recorded 29 ground balls, nine caused turnovers, two goals and one assist in 13 games for Marquette. The Devon, Pennsylvania, native recorded three games with two or more caused turnovers, highlighted by a three-caused turnover, three-ground ball performance at Cleveland State.
The major awards went alllllmost exactly as I expected them to when I made my picks. Ty Banks is Defensive Player of the Year, Jake Bickel is Freshman of the Year, Georgetown earned Coaching Staff of the Year, all of which were my picks. The league’s coaches veered off ever so slightly from my positions for Offensive Player and Goalkeeper, but they weren’t unexpected picks. They went with Rory Connor for OPOY when I went with Rory’s brother Liam because he had the better point total thanks to a wealth of assists. I get it, you went with the best scorer in the league. Grayson Manning isn’t the wrong choice for GKOTY either, and I highlighted him in my picks, I just figured the coaches wouldn’t honor the goalie on a team that’s clearly struggling even if Manning himself wasn’t close to struggling.
I also got seven of my 12 All-Big East team picks correct and one of my misses was going out of my way to get Villanova’s George Glomb, the best faceoff man in the league, onto the team, which is something that the Big East/the coaches did not do. Still, I can’t take that big of a victory lap here. First: Seven of the 13 guys on the official all-BE team were unanimous choices, so they were obvious picks and I can’t take credit for being right on obvious picks. Second: As mentioned, one of the unanimous picks was Nolan Rappis….. and I didn’t have him in. I will beg off from getting rotten vegetables thrown at me on this because as mentioned in my picks post, the Big East had phantom stats in the season long numbers and I couldn’t trust them. I also stuck to three attack, three midfield, three defense, and the coaches did not. They have six attackers on the First Team, and when both Connor boys from Georgetown are two of your three attackers, then Carsen Brandt’s team lead in points per game — powered by assists! I’m biased for the full picture! — beats out Rappis.
