It’s officially game week in the NFL, and six Steelers changed their jersey number ahead of the season opener.
Per reports from Steelers beat writers and reflected on Steelers.com, the new numbers are as follows:
- OL Andrus Peat: 71
- DL Esezi Otomewo: 93
- DL Yahya Black: 94
- RB Trey Sermon: 37 (practice squad)
- DB D’Shawn Jamison: 38 (practice squad)
- WR Max Hurleman: 84 (practice squad)
After cutdowns, more numbers were available. For instance, Otomewo switched to linebacker Mark Robinson’s old No. 93.
Black, who had arguably the best preseason of any Steelers rookie, switched from No. 78 to 94, his college number. (Dean Lowry, who previously wore the number, is still listed
with it on the Steelers’ injured reserve list).
The most notable number change of the practice squad players is Hurleman, a wide receiver who will now be wearing Antonio Brown’s old number. However, while the No. 84 has plenty of Steelers history, the team hasn’t been stingy giving it out since Brown left Pittsburgh.
