Penta is focused on winning the #1 contender tournament to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Raw in Mexico City. Penta knows that the Bloodline won’t be far behind the Tribal Chief. The luchador has cero miedo, but he also realizes it would be wise to have family watch his back. The question is which family would Penta choose. The answer unfolded in Lucha Libre AAA (full results) on Saturday night (Aug. 22, 2026).
Penta has history with Los Perros del Mal as a member
of the crew back in the day. With the resurrection of this family, Daga wanted Penta to rejoin the ranks, and they would help him with the Bloodline. Penta was cool with Daga, Angel, and Garza. However, he questioned if Bronco Nima is dead weight.
Penta and Nima duked it out in the ring. If Nima wins, then Penta will join Los Perros. If Penta wins, then he can choose as he pleases. The match was fair and square one-on-one. The NXT powerhouse showed heart. Penta is just better, as is expected. Nima blocked the Mexican destroyer twice. On the second attempt, Penta countered Nima into a roll-up to win.
Afterward, Los Perros rushed to the ring, and Penta bailed outside. He proved his point that Nima is dead weight. Daga reacted with a swerve to hit Nima with a chair. Los Perros jumped Nima out of the family. Karmen Petrovic added insult to injury with a spinning kick to the head.
The choice was still up to Penta to rejoin Los Perros. Daga handed him the shirt. Penta teased the drama as the crowd reacted, then he shoved the shirt back at Daga. Penta dumped Los Perros. This did not sit well with Daga, and they attacked Penta. Fenix ran in to help his brother. The numbers got him too. Dragon Lee arrived to the ring to even the odds. Penta, Fenix, and Dragon cleared the ring. Penta had one more piece of business. He found family in AAA, but it’s not with Los Perros. His brothers are Fenix and Dragon. Penta challenged those cats to a trios match for Ola de Calor on August 30.
From the perspective of Penta’s story, this should be good. Los Perros don’t forgive, and no doubt that they will want revenge. One thing I didn’t like is Penta winning via roll-up. He talked mad disrespect toward Nima, and he wins like that? The purpose of Nima is muscle against the Bloodline. I think he proved himself well in this fight by showing heart. Nima is the type of man you want on your side in a brawl.
From the perspective of Fenix’s story, he’s taken a backseat to a detriment. He’s still in the tournament, so he could just as easily face Reigns instead of Penta. All this drama focused on Penta basically spoils who should win the tournament. I mean, Penta was the clear favorite to begin with, but don’t be so blatant about it.
From the perspective of Los Perros’ story, I don’t like this at all for them. Not only did Penta dump them, but they also tossed Nima out of the group. Nima can be a valuable enforcer, and they threw him out like trash. In my view, Los Perros lost aura. We’ll see if they save face at Ola de Calor.
